My Solar Home: Solar simulator for roofs

NOVELTIS has developped a free tool to easily estimate the solar potential of your roof.

NOVELTIS has developed “My solar home” application, i.e. a web-based integrated decision support system for the development of rooftop photovoltaic power stations.
Cities encourage the development of renewable energy on their territories by fostering the use of our solution for all their citizens.
NOVELTIS noticed that citizens were not aware of the solar potential of their roofs and that it was difficult to access reliable and precise information concerning the production of solar energy. The “My solar home” application of NOVELTIS fully meets this need.

From weather data, satellite data and 3D modeling, we created an algorithm to instantly calculate the electricity production capacity.
As a matter of fact, it calculates the surface of your roof, allows to deduce the surface which is well enough irradiated, and to subtract the unproductive surface of roof windows.
The simplified display allows everyone to quickly understand technical information relevant to the implementation of a photovoltaic system.
It also provides with a cost estimation of the solar equipment and compares it with the estimated revenues.

Means used

  • All city roofs are mapped, thanks to high resolution 3D aerial imagery.
  • The algorithm calculates the potential, taking into account the slope and orientation of the roofs, as well as their surrounding environment.

  • Citizens can access certified installers through the web interface dedicated to the simulation and management of photovoltaic projects.
