Project Description

Meteosat Third Generation

NOVELTIS is involved in the preparation of the EUMETSAT’s next generation of geostationary satellites, called Meteosat Third Generation (MTG).

The new MTG satellites will provide enhanced imaging capacities, including a new Lightning Imager, as well as a state-of-the-art atmospheric sounding solution providing measurements in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum. Six new geostationary MTG satellites will be lunched from 2021 onwards.
NOVELTIS works currently on the Level 2 Processing Facility of the MTG ground segment. We provide scientific support for:
  • The specification of the new algorithms concerning the MTG instruments FCI (Flexible Combined Imager), LI (Lightning Imager) and IRS (Infrared Sounder);
  • The elaboration of the test data sets and the scientific validation of the processing results;
  • The organization of scientific workshops with EUMETSAT experts to clarify the content of the specifications and brainstorm about the choices for the new algorithmic processing.
